A brand new baby girl came into this wondrous world.
Third in a family of five,
She opened her eyes for the very first time.
Gazing up at her mother, father, and two big sis’s,
She starts to cry.
An ordinary beginning;
For an ordinary baby girl.
As the nurses all take care of Mom,
The baby girl sleeps somewhat calm.
“What a wonderful Easter present!”
They all seem to croon.
“Not Easter, but birthday.” Was Mom’s only response.
Yes, it was true, the youngest of three,
Was her mother’s 29th birthday gift,
And her father’s 30th.
What a quirky way to begin life.
A quirk that would make her unique,
Causing her no strife.
A happy three years,
She would reside in Brunswick ,
Ohio .
Laughing, playing, out in the sun,
She was still the smallest child, still the small one.
Learning new things everyday,
And greeting each with a grand smile.
September rolled around,
And her mother had twins.
Not one, but two, younger brothers to take her small place.
Determined to be the best big sister she could be,
The brand new baby girl was now three.
And at just three she was the only one to tell the boys
apart.
As weeks turned into months,
Then months into years.
The family of seven took off.
Climbing trees, hide ‘n seek, and kickball in the street.
The kids all played pleasantly, while dads were at work.
Clubhouses, tag, lots of make believe.
The little girl and her sisters had plenty to do.
They loved their toys.
They loved their friends,
Their games and their fun,
Their quaint little neighborhood out in the sun.
Winter of 1998
Came with lots of frost.
The young girl, now six, was filled with great fear.
With cold winds, playing cards, a dead hamster, and moving
trucks;
The family of seven, headed onto a new life.
Settling down in steamy-hot, AZ,
The girl and her brothers, sad but still excited, ran on.
Their sisters filled with spite,
Dragged their feet towards that new life.
The family moves into a big two story house.
Fifth house on the left,
The one with the tree,
A community called Grayhawk.
With a grade school nearby.
The quirky little girl with a gleam in her eye.
Started first grade again,
At the grade school nearby.
In some ways a tom-boy,
Her best friend lived across the street.
A year older than her, he was always great fun.
Their days were spent together,
Until one retched day, the summer of fourth grade.
They went their separate ways, and hardly ever spoke.
Even though he was still there,
And so was she.
Their friendship failed to remain.
It just broke.
Growing up fast, the years just flew by.
The girl was now a pre-teen,
Taking steps toward her future.
Clinging onto her friends,
With one last hoo-rah,
The sixth grade class made a trip.
To Catalina Island ,
Off they all went.
For three days they observed and enjoyed,
Snorkeling and swimming, in ice cold waters.
Labs and giant games of “sally walker”.
The wonders of sixth grade ended in summer camp.
Then the inspired young lady, began to prepare
For seventh grade at MTMS .
Middle school flew by just way too quick.
And scares of moving, once again,
Haunted the blossoming girl’s daily life.
Well adjusted she wished she could stay.
Not wanting to leave,
Her seemingly for ever long friends,
The bewildered girl prayed for just one more year.
Somewhere god heard her prayers.
Sending the family luck, and her father a new job.
She went on to begin her high school career at NCHS.
A place now held very close to her heart.
Freshman year was exciting,
With basketball and softball too.
Football games, heartbreaks,
And many new friends.
One more birthday gone by,
The brand new baby girl,
Turns fifteen.
Becoming inspired by life,
She advances in art.
As sophomore year begins,
Her tight group of friends,
Becomes tighter, with more and more to add.
The little girl, not so little anymore,
Dances through it having a blast.
Becoming a Freshman Mentor ,
And taking on more and more tasks.
JV softball and balancing tough academics,
This year wears that young girl down.
Grateful for summer,
But sad just the same,
Some close friends move away.
Spread around states and even continents,
Hopefully, their friendships will last.
Where ever they may be, they can hold fast.
Starting up her first job,
And getting her license.
Just two months after turning sixteen,
The girl heads into the land of adulthood,
Still holding on to being a kid with all her might.
As junior year begins,
There just isn’t enough time.
Scares of moving, arise from her past.
She thinks:
“Why now?”
“Why us?”
“Why me?”
Trying to make the best of the time she has left,
She savors every minute,
Patience put to the ultimate test.
Not wanting to leave her lifelong home
The same house for nearly ten years.
It’s sad to see it go.
But life goes on,
Even when it seems permanently stopped.
Hopefully,
I’ll find joy in my life,
As it takes another turn.
I’ll find new passions,
And new ways to learn.
So that the quirky baby girl,
The brave big sis,
The misguided preteen,
The independent student.
The child at heart.
Is just me.
And will always stay:
Dianna Michelle Bellian
JUST ME.
